Jacob P. Spear is an attorney with Sturgul & Long, S.C. where he practices primarily elder law, which includes estate planning, nursing home planning, and Medicaid planning. As part of these general asset protection planning areas, Mr. Spear also deals in particular with succession planning for businesses and protecting real estate (including camps and farms) to minimize taxes, probate costs, and nursing home expenses.
Mr. Spear received his bachelor’s degree in surveying-engineering, cum laude, from Michigan Technological University in 2012. He earned his juris doctor, magna cum laude, from the Michigan State University College of Law in 2015. He is admitted to practice law in Michigan and Wisconsin. Mr. Spear is a past president of the Marquette County Bar Association, an elected member of the Republic-Michigamme School Board, and a volunteer on the Board of Directors for Camp STAR Child Bereavement Services.
Jacob and his wife, Taylor, live in Republic, Michigan with their two sons, Hendrick and Griffin. When he is not practicing law, Jacob enjoys farming on his family’s homestead, playing hockey with his sons, and is an avid musician.
Mr. Spear began working with Attorney Paul A. Sturgul in 2017. Prior to joining Mr. Sturgul, Mr. Spear worked as an associate attorney in an estate planning firm in Ishpeming, Michigan.
